How Sealing Works

Proof of authorship, without anyone holding your poem

In Short

A seal is a timestamped record that an exact version of your poem existed at a certain time, under your pen name. syllabe does not authenticate your work or vouch for it. The seal comes from a third-party timestamping tool, and you keep full ownership of your poem. Not even we have a copy.

What Happens When You Seal

  • syllabe turns the exact text of your poem into a fingerprint: a short code that changes completely if even one comma changes. The fingerprint can't be turned back into the poem.
  • That fingerprint is sent to OpenTimestamps, a free, independent service that adds it to a permanent public record. Once there, the date can't be changed by anyone, including you and us.
  • Your seal is signed with a key that belongs to your pen name. The key is created on your device and never leaves it, so all of your seals can be tied to the same pen name.
  • Your poem itself never leaves your device.

Your Certificate

Each seal comes with a certificate you can save as an image. Its QR code holds the poem, the pen name and the signature. Scanning it opens this site and shows the poem with the timestamp, the fingerprint and who signed it. Everything is checked in the browser. Nothing is stored on our side.

Editing a Sealed Poem

A seal covers one exact version. If you edit the poem, the old seal stays valid for the old version, and you can seal the new version too. Each seal keeps its own certificate.

What a Seal Proves, and What It Doesn't

  • It proves this exact text existed by the time shown.
  • It proves it was sealed under this pen name's key.
  • It does not prove who wrote it first, or that the person sealing it is the author.
  • It is not a copyright registration. In most countries, you own your poem the moment you write it.
